Pinterest, Pinterest….you have caused both men and women to look at our living spaces differently and to spend some serious $’s in the process. When you are broke, you have the option of giving up and not caring at all what your space looks like. That is fine. I am talking to those of you who do care. I am talking to those of you who care and don’t have an unlimited budget to work with in order to get that HGtv recognition.

What do I mean by the word afford? I mean march into a thrift store afford. I am talking go into WalMart and make do with something that is very inexpensive. If you can go into Ethan Allen, Crate & Barrel, or a West Elm…..more power to you and if I had the money I would be marching with you. But I don’t. So one has to get creative. So armed with sandpapers, paints, drills, sewing machines and hot glue guns people like us have got to save the money and get our DIY on.

Amazon

Walmart

Goodwill

Salvation Army

Ebay

Lowes

Home Depot

Just a few of the places, that if you a savvy savy shopper you can save serious dollars decorating your home. I have not been paid to plug any of these places….

I am hoping to show you bare bones affordable DIY decor ideas.

I am sure by now you have been to Pinterest and see tons and tons of beautiful pictures of homes and their rooms. I am sure you have looked at some DIY projects and wondered,

“how in the hell do they think I can do that?”

Some make it look so easy and so quick. I have tried some of this and some have been easy and some ended up in the dump.

Also, I sort of see a lack of practicality when it comes to DIY decor.

If you have small children or large dogs…or heaven forbid….both. Your 15 pillows on the couch will end up on the floor and you do not have time for 55+ little somethings on a mantle to dust. So I hope to help.

I am broke and have two large German Shepherds. I have to have the ceiling fans on all the time because, TADA…I in menopause. So dust and dog fur is constantly slinging everywhere.

Be prepared TO THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. Can you only use a pillow case to house a pillow? Can it be used for something else? I just used 6 to make cafe curtains for my kitchen.

Two saw horses and a flat hollow core door? Cool man desk for the man’s office.

The list is endless. Just have an open mind.

Join me on this journey.
